Virginia Greer

Virginia (Richardson) Greer, age 87, of Cabin Creek passed away on March 13, 2024 at the home of her daughter in Rugby, VA which was her home for the past 10 years, and is now resting peacefully, awaiting the return of Jesus.
 
In addition to her parents Oscar and Ola (Cooper) Richardson, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Smith Greer in 2008 after 54 years of marriage.
 
Virginia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Dan Huffman. Grandchildren: Ginger and Russell Petersen, Eric Huffman, and Tina Huffman. She is also survived by her sister, Mable Satteson and two nephews and one niece: Michael Satteson and long-time girlfriend Tracy Luchetta, Karen Satteson and Amy Shirkey, David and Dawn (Tule) Satteson.

Virginia retired in 2003, from Rooftop of Virginia Community Action Program, after 30 years of service as a community action outreach case manager. Rooftop is part of a network of agencies that work to “alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty nationwide by helping people help themselves and others”. During her time working for Rooftop, she operated the community center in Whitetop, VA. She was involved in many things there including teaching people to sew, managing clothing giveaways, and managing summer youth programs and some programs for senior citizens. She and coworkers also traveled around the county gaining information about services people might need and helping them with applications for weatherization or indoor plumbing.
 
Prior to her tenure at Rooftop, she worked in different factory settings for several years.
 
The family will receive friends at the Konnarock Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 pm with the funeral service following.  A fellowship meal will follow the service for family and friends provided by the Konnarock Seventh-day Adventist church family.
 
Burial will be in the Greer family cemetery on Cabin Creek. There will be no graveside service.
