Richard passed away peacefully at Life Care Center of Banner Elk after a long illness. He was 92 years old. He resided in Creston, NC.
Richard was an Army Veteran who served during the Korean War and served many years in the National Guard.
He was a man with immense humor, and wisdom and full of life stories that we could listen to for hours.
He cherished every moment spent with loved ones and friends whether in person or long phone calls. He loved fishing, gardening, animals and helping everyone that needed help while his health allowed.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Betty Price Bruner and several brothers and sisters.
Richard is survived by his son, Richard T. Bruner; daughter, Melinda Ruth Archer; nephew, Edwin Wells and wife Lisa and their children, Dylan, Tyler and Hannah who he considered his “grandchildren”. He is also survived by his sister Lannie Francis Ledbetter; special niece, Rita Grooms and several distant nieces and nephews. Richard and Betty also had two “kids from years past” that they took under their wings and loved them both very much and considered them part of the family- Vickie Adcox and Chris Carter.
The family would like to send their sincerest “thank you” to the Roark family, Ronnie, April, Owen, Norene, Lee, and April Blevins for being wonderful, caring friends who were always there at a moment’s notice when needed. You all helped Richard so much and we can’t thank you enough for your kindness, thoughtfulness, and unwavering support.
We would also like to thank Life Care Center of Banner Elk and Amorem Hospice for the wonderful respect, compassion, and great care Richard received while in your care.
And as always, Richard’s last words “stay on your side of the road.” We’ll miss you and always love you.
The family of Richard Eugene Bruner has entrusted his care to Mountain City Funeral Home, 224 S. Church Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.
