Nellie Greer

Nellie R. Greer, age 94, of Creston, North Carolina, went to be with her Lord and Savior October 10, 2024 at Glenbridge Health and Rehab of Boone, NC. She was born April 5, 1930 in Ashe County, NC to the late Letcher and Emma Greer. 

In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Freeman Greer; infant son, Clarence Dean Greer; two infant daughters, Barbara Ann Greer and Nancy Gene Greer; sisters, Ora Welch, Lillie Belle Oliver; brothers, Roy Greer and Smith Greer.

Nellie and her husband Freeman loved helping others and sharing their love of God, singing gospel songs at their home church in Creston, Mountain View, and at other churches. She always had a smile and touched the hearts of everyone she met. Nellie retired from Levi Strauss and enjoyed gardening and flowers. 

Those left to cherish her memories include her son, Johnny Keith Greer and wife Linda; brother, Earl Greer and wife Madeline; Johnny Keith’s sister-in-law, Brenda Matheson Howard of Greenville, TN; her church family and many special friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Mountain View Church in Creston, NC. The funeral service will follow with Brian Weaver and Spencer Roark officiating. The graveside service and burial will immediately follow at the Greer Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Miller, Ricky Greer, Russell Greer, Danny Welch, David Smiley, and Kenneth Oliver. Honorary pallbearers are the members of Mountain View Church. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain View Church, 1926 Rock Fence Rd., Creston, NC 28615.
