Maxine Hall

Maxine Hall, age 80, passed away on Sunday evening, December 15, 2024 at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was born November 27, 1944 to the late Azel and Hazel Cress. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Angela, and brothers, Raymond Cress and Douglas Cress.

Maxine was quiet but strong-willed and had a sharp wit. She liked to stay busy and in her free time enjoyed sewing, quilting, and working in her flowers. Her artistic abilities weren’t limited to sewing but included many different crafts. Maxine was an avid Lady Vols fan. Since 2008 she and her husband Barton attended SEC tournaments together. She was very active at Hammons Chapel Church and her famous rolls were a staple at every dinner. She also loved to read and enjoyed book exchanges with her church friends.

Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 53 1/2 years, Barton Hall; sons, Mitchell Hall (Kathleen Cantrell-Hall), Gregory Hall (Katie), and Steven Hall; sister, Carolyn Pardue; brother, Glen Cress; grandson, John Hall; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Preacher Joshua Giddings officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral from the Cress Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Walter Simcox, Robbie Timbs, Dwight Brooks, Matthew Lewis, Alan Hammons, and Larry Henson. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hammons Chapel Church for repairs due to damage from Hurricane Helene. Donations may be sent c/o Dorothy Shupe, 1631 Divide Road, Mountain City, TN 37683.
