Kenneth Gene Hughes

Kenneth Gene Hughes, age 90, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 in hospice care at Ivy Hall Nursing Home in Elizabethton, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abner Ben and Addie Miller Hughes; his wife of over 50 years, Frances Fleenor Hughes; son, Barry Glenn Hughes; sister, Nina Hughes Byington; brothers, John, Jess, Reece, and Otis Hughes. Kenneth was born on July 10, 1930 in Campbell County, TN but moved to Hawkins County as a small child, and spent the vast majority of his life there until his health challenges necessitated his move in with his son and family in Mountain City, TN. Kenneth was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean War. He also retired from Meade Paper Corporation in 1992 after over 30 years of employment. He was of the Christian faith. Survivors include his son, Gregory G. Hughes and wife Donna and grandchildren, Benjamin, Caitlin, Dylan, and Sarah Hughes. At his request, there will be no formal services held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army or the Doe Valley Fire Department in Johnson County, TN.
