Kathy Shipley

Kathy Shipley, a beloved mother, meme, sister, and friend, passed away on March 4, 2025, at the age of 70. Known for her boundless love and kindness, Kathy had a way of making everyone she met feel important and cherished. To know her was to be loved by her and to so many, she was simply “Meme.”

Born to Abraham “Ham” and Lona Campbell, Kathy grew up surrounded by family and carried that deep sense of love and connection throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brothers, Bob Campbell, Jerry Campbell, Terry Campbell and Michael Campbell and sisters, Linda Bass and Patricia Hicks.

She leaves behind a family who will forever hold her memory close. Her daughters, Amanda Scalf and Kayla Shipley, will continue to carry her love in their hearts. Her grandchildren, Maleah Scalf, Jackson Payne, Quentin Ray, and Andrew Payne, were the lights of her life. Kathy is also survived by her sisters, Shelia Reece (Charles) and Wilma Ball; her brothers, David Campbell (Shirley) and Rick Campbell (Della); many cherished nieces and nephews and other special family, Justin Payne, Kelly & Keilan Reid, Jonathan Scalf (Taylor), and Chelsey Weddle.

Kathy’s legacy is one of love, warmth, and unwavering kindness. She was a mother and meme not only to her own family but to everyone she met. Her gentle spirit and generous heart will be missed beyond measure, but the love she shared will live on in the countless lives she touched.

A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held on Friday, March 14th at 7:00 p.m. at Mountain City Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor her memory by sharing kindness and love—just as she always did.
