Judy Owens

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judy Owens, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, who departed this life on June 18th at the age of 76. She passed at home peacefully surrounded by her family. Born on March 31, 1948 in Neva, TN. Judy was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her.

For 58 beautiful years, she was the devoted wife of Clyde, the love of her life. Together, they built a life filled with love, joy, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Judy was known for her adventurous spirit, always seeking new experiences and creating unforgettable memories. She enjoyed parasailing with her daughter and grandson in Turks and Caicos, zip lining in Costa Rica, and hot air ballooning in New Mexico. Pigeon Forge held a special place in her heart, where she loved spending weekends with her sister shopping, visiting Dollywood, and dining at the Apple Barn. Her love for travel and adventure was a testament to her vibrant spirit and her love for making memories with her family.

Her greatest love, however, was for her family. She was a dedicated and loving mother who taught her children the values of hard work, unconditional love, and enjoying life to the fullest. She was a friend and cheerleader, always encouraging them to laugh, love, and have fun. Her favorite moments were those spent together, using the good china, driving with the top down, and singing along to her favorite song, "Against the Wind" by Bob Seger.

Judy was deeply cherished by her grandchildren. She showed up to every game, award ceremony, school event, birthday, and graduation. She introduced Olivia to the greats like Dolly Parton and took her on trips to Pigeon Forge, creating lasting memories. Her calls to check in and her warm hugs always made them feel special and loved. Grayson and Sonora especially loved the time spent traveling the Southwest and Caribbean with their Mamaw, who always knew how to make them smile and laugh.

She was an integral part of her church family and loved her neighbors dearly, forming bonds that brought her immense joy and comfort. Her faith was a pillar of her life, providing strength and fellowship.

She retired after successfully managing the Cabin Store furniture store in Mountain City, TN. Her customers always enjoyed working with her and visiting while in town. She enjoyed retail and never met a stranger. Always willing to assist customers with her expertise.

In recent years, she demonstrated immense courage and strength as she battled cancer. She faced every challenge with grace and dignity, showing us the true meaning of resilience. Though her battle has ended, she has gone home to be with her Heavenly Father, where she is free from pain and suffering.

Judy is survived by her loving husband Clyde Owens, her son Steve Owens of Mountain City, her daughter Sheila Owens Gentry and husband Shawn Gentry of Todd, NC, her granddaughter Olivia Stelter and husband Lucas Stelter of Killeen, TX, her grandchildren Grayson Gentry and Sonora Gentry of Todd, NC, her great grandchildren Rhiley Stelter and Atticus Stelter of Killeen, TX, her sister Norma Stanbery of Morristown, TN, her sister in law Wilma Woodard of Johnson City, TN, her niece Theresa Wexler and husband Harold Wexler of Mountain City, TN, her nephews Michael Stanbery and Tony Stanbery of Morristown, TN, her nephew Doug Woodard of Johnson City, TN, her niece Lisa Brown of Mountain city, TN, her great nephew Jesse Osborne and wife Kayla Osborne of Johnson City, TN, and many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Her love, laughter, and light will remain with us always, and her memory will be cherished forever.

A celebration of Judy Owens’s life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 3 pm at Mountain City Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Giddings to officiate.
