Iris Hux-Greer, age 91,of Mountain City, TN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, April 12, 2025, at Johnson City Medical Center. Iris was born December 29, 1933 in Laurel Bloomery of Johnson County, TN to the late John F. Greer and Anna Gentry Greer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Charles B. Hux; second husband, Vance Greer; son, Joe Hux; sisters, Alice Miller, Wilma Greer; brother, Wayne Greer; sisters-in law, Ruth Blevins Greer, Kathleen Greer and brothers-in-law, Bob Morefield, and Julian Miller.
Iris was a 1952 graduate of Johnson County High School and was their class Treasurer. She went on to business school in Nashville, TN. Iris then went to work at the Ford Dealership in Bristol for several years and it was said she traded for a new car every year. She then went to work in banking, working at several different banks throughout the years and later retired from Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank as branch manager of the Mountain City office. She was active in the Mountain City Rotary Club as well as her church; First Baptist Church being involved in WMU, C.A.R.E., singing in the choir up until a few weeks ago and faithfully attended the Fidelis Sunday School class. Iris worked hard on the Sugar Creek Community Rock School House reunion that turned out to be an annual event. For those who knew her best she enjoyed traveling places like The Holy Land, Alaska, etc.; Iris and her sisters had a special bond taking a vacation trip together each year while they were able.
Iris is survived by one daughter, Edna Lee (Doodle) Lewis and husband Wayne; one sister, Ethel G. Morefield; grandchildren, Julia Gilsdorf (John), Matthew Lipford (Amanda), Christopher Hux; seven great- grandchildren, Sophia, Willow, Zack, Danny, Zoe, Kit and Sully; nieces and nephews, Marcia Thomas (Wade), Mike Morefield (Linda), John Morefield, Joe Morefield, Robby Morefield, Carolyn Mize (John), Tim Greer (Pam), Debbie Caffey (Bill), Lisa Hayes (Charlie), Lee Lyons (Dennis); several great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Karen Russo.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Mountain City Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Jamie Bodiford and Ricky Campbell officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike Morefield, John Morefield, Wade Thomas, Wayne Lewis, Isaac Carr and Matthew Lipford. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be The Fidelis Sunday School Class. Entombment will follow from Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum of Love.
Iris was a supporter of Rescue Dog & End of Life Sanctuary in Mountain City and the family asks in lieu of flowers donate to this cause; or you may donate to First Baptist Church W.M.U. at 421 West Main St., Mountain City, TN 37683.
