Gordon (Gordy) Myatt, age 81, of Piney Flats, TN, passed away in his home on July 29th, 2024.
Gordon is survived by his daughter, Kimberley Myatt, and his grandson, Zayden Myatt. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne Myatt, his sister, Roseanne Larsen, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Claire Myatt, his loving wife of 42 years, Sarah Belle Dugger Myatt, his sister, Jeanine Myatt, and his son, Douglas Myatt.
Gordon served as a B52 mechanic in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After his service, he used his brilliant mind to work as an engineer at Texas Instruments. Being the hard-working man he was, he did not stop working until his health no longer allowed him to. He was a man of many passions. Driven by his love of flying, he obtained his private pilot license and spent as much time in the sky as he could. He was a very talented photographer and combined his love of flying and photography into aerial photography. He also practiced videography, even running his own business for a short time. Being a family man, he always went above and beyond for those around him and impacted all of those around him. In addition to raising his son and daughter, he took part in raising and caring for many of his nieces and nephews. Gordon was outgoing and never met a stranger, always extending a hand to whoever he met. He was a loving and supportive grandfather, father, husband, and brother who devoted his time and efforts to anyone in need. He was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by his grandson, who was the light of his life, as well as his daughter and many family members whom he left with fond memories of his love and support. He lived a unique, beautiful life and will be remembered lovingly as a man of great integrity and a bright, contagious smile.
Gordon’s graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Sugar Grove Church Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife. Family and friends are asked to gather in the church parking lot by 2:45 p.m.
