Douglas “Carroll” Hartley, age 74, went home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2024 after a long illness. He was born October 25, 1949 in Carter County, TN to the late Carlie and Rosalee Hartley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Carroll Hartley, Jr.; brothers, L.D. Hartley, Jesse Hartley, Dewey Hartley, Gene Hartley; one infant brother; two half-sisters, Cindy Phillips, Maxine Whaley and half-brother, Wayne Hartley.
Raising a garden, while he was able, was one of Carroll’s favorite things to do. He also enjoyed tinkering and fixing things. He was a devoted member of Meadowview Baptist Church and was the bell ringer. He loved his church family and was a devoted father and grandfather.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 49 years, Kathy Hartley; daughter, Sara Southall (Rami); son, Bobby Hartley; sisters, Hazel Clawson (Johnny), Lucille Gardner; brothers, R.L. Hartley (Paulette), Dennis Hartley (Judy); half-brother, Basil Hartley; brothers-in-law, Jerry Conway (Gaye), Larry Conway (Kathy); granddaughter, Eleanor Southall; special friends, Roy Bailey, Gary Bowman (Lisa), J.R. Bunton, George and Velma Bunton, JoAnn Cable, Lowell Trivette, Stephanie Barlow, who he loved like a daughter; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many more special friends.
The family will receive friends from 11:30-1:00 p.m.on June 15, 2024 at Meadowview Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastors Ray Greene and Charles Cable officiating and special music by Lowell and Glenda Trivette. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral at the Bunton Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Hartley and Carroll’s nephews. Honorary pallbearers are the men of Meadowview Baptist Church, Roy Bailey, J.R. Bunton, Larry Conway, Jerry Conway, George Bunton, Lucas Hartley, Rami Southall, Delmas Bunton, Pastor Richard Jones, and Jerry Hicks.
At other times, friends and family may visit the home, 162 Meadowview Baptist Church Road, Butler, TN 37640.
