Dewey Paul Woodard, age 69, of Johnson City, Tennessee and formerly of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on October 8, 1948 to the late Fred and Mae Howard Woodard. In addition to his parents, Dewey was preceded in death by a sister, Stella Osborne and brothers: Robert Woodard, Norman Woodard, Bobby Woodard, Roscoe Woodard, Boyd Woodard, and Daniel Fred Woodard.
Dewey was a Vietnam War Veteran having honorably served in the United States Army. Following his military career, Dewey worked in construction as a Contractor. He liked to work and created a successful business.
He was always busy doing something but he especially enjoyed fishing and traveling. One of his fondest trips was going on an Alaskan Cruise. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. Dewey enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed telling jokes with them. He also loved to read, especially his Bible.
He was a member of Nelsons Chapel Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 52 years, Wilma Woodard; son, Doug Woodard; sisters: Sue Lipford, Alice Jones, Shirley Campbell; brothers: James Woodard and Frank Woodard; sister-in-law, Lois Maze; brother-in-law, Clyde Owens and wife Judy; special friends, Lisa and Tripp Farmer and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral and graveside services will be private. Military honors will be conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard who will also serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Scotty Campbell, Frank Woodard, Greg Lipford, Steve Owens, Clyde Owens and Steve Shaw.
Dewey’s body will lie in state at the funeral home on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
