Carolyn Higginbotham

Carolyn Spinks Higginbotham, of Durham, NC, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024 at the Mountain City Care Center. She was born in Mountain City, TN and was the daughter of the late William Taft Wilcox and Selma Elizabeth Warren Wilcox. Carolyn was preceded in death by her first husband James O. Spinks Jr. second husband, Gary D. Higginbotham, sisters Ola Mae, Della, Mary, Maxine, Peanut, Ilene, and Naomi, and brothers John, Edd, and J.B.

Carolyn retired from the UNC Student Stores with over 40 years of service. She enjoyed making biscuits for the New Hope Fire Department events, was an avid General Hospital fan, and loved cooking and baking for her family. Carolyn is survived by her son, Joe Spinks (Sherri), daughter Crissy King, brother Rob Wilcox (Jenna Lee), grandchildren Dale Spinks (Clair) and Gray Spinks (Joy), great-grandchildren Emma, Thomas, and James, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Clements Funeral Home in Durham, NC. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church on Friday, December 6th at 11:00am with Rev. Bob Sipper officiating.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation for their excellent care over the last 4 years and to Caris Hospice for their care and support.
