Betty Mink

Betty Walker Mink, age 80, passed away September 9, 2024 at her home after a lengthy illness. Betty was born February 16, 1944 to the late C.H. (Herb) Walker and Mattie Greer Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Walker Monseur, Blanche Walker Settlemyre, Mary Walker Hicks; brothers, Robert (R.S.) Walker, JC Walker, Dean Walker, Charles Walker, Connie Eggers, and infant brother, Frederick Walker.

Betty was a 1961 graduate of Johnson County High School. Her whole life she enjoyed being around people and loved family get-togethers. Betty had a special love for horses and competed in a few horse shows in her younger years. She worked at the local factories including Leco, Genesco, and Levi’s as a supervisor for many years. She retired from Levi’s and then graduated from cosmetology school and became a beautician. She also enjoyed working outside in her flowers. She attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church until her health declined.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Sylvia Pennington; sister, Shirley Michael; brother, John Eggers (Glenda); grandson, Coty Pennington; great grandchildren, Alex Pennington, Jameson (JJ) Pennington; several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Will Kerley and Betty’s niece, Amy Cherbony to officiate. Special music will be provided by Herman Cherbony. The graveside service and burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Betty’s caregiver, David Collins, Jesse Atwood, Alex Pennington, and Joseph Atwood. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Grindstaff, Bill Mink, and Coty Pennington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 3385 Roan Creek Road, Mountain City, TN 37683.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice and all the great caregivers that helped care for Betty during her illness.
