Amelia, known to many as Mom, was a hard working woman who raised her children by working various jobs, usually two shifts to provide education and a better life for them. After retiring, mom enjoyed traveling and meeting people wherever she went. She continued working from time to time as a babysitter, as she had a special touch with children. In addition to her parents, Amelia was preceded in death by all her siblings; sisters: Lydia Morales and Maria Luisa Garcia-Medina; brothers Baro, Cruz, Domingo and Pablo; as well as a niece that she adopted and raised as her own, Lucy Medina.
Those left behind to cherish her life include her daughter, Isabel Welborn-Raventos and her husband Joaquin; son, Alfonso Flores and wife Lupe; step-grandson, Joaquin his wife Valerie and their children Catalina, Emmanuel and Sofia; brother in law, Alexandro Morales; three sisters in law, Francis Medina, Margarita Medina and Maria Hernandez-Medina; several nieces and nephews to whom she was especially close to, Mayra Tango, Lilia Medina and Viviana Martinez. Amelia also leaves behind many cousins, from the Medina, Alcala and Ocon sides of her family.
It is hard to mention the countless friends in different countries that mom left behind to cherish their time together but just to mention some are Ina Bellamy, Letty Bueno, Nena Corral, Mrs. Amparo Pimentel and her daughter, Blanca Taylor, Mercedes Raventos, Sandy Calderón, Joetta Stansberry, Xavier & Rosa Torts, Freddy & Miguel Hernández, Suly Velarde, Elva Flores, Mariela Aguilar, Lupe Foley, Manuel & Santa Castro, Don Fily Vargas and family; her furry friend, Honey and her dear friends from SAB, whom she was always looking forward to join twice a month, for several years.
Amelia’s beloved nickname, mom, came from those who she babysat. Everyone lovingly called her mom until her death. Most of them are now raising children of their own. Just to mention a few are, Emma Garcia, Ferny Buenfil, Karen Velarde, Fernanda, Mia and Valentina Flores, Ashley and Amber Foley, Kimberly Bonilla, Alex Calderon, Omar Linares, Christian and Juan Rodriguez.
Her family would like to thank Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC, and in particular the wonderful team of nurses for their care and compassion. Also, we want to thank her doctors in El Paso Texas, Dr. Vanessa Hernandez and Dr. Eugene Toy, for their excellent care, professionalism and for always being there for our mother and Mr. Luis Gonzalez and his team at UMC in El Paso, Texas and to Mrs. Haley Stout, RN, for her skills and knowledge that helped us take care of mom.
