Ray McKinley Pennington

Ray Pennington Ray Pennington, age 91, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital of Elizabethton, Tennessee. He was born on May 22, 1918 in Johnson County, Tennessee to the late Emmitt and Callie King Pennington. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by three brothers: Willie, Butler and James Pennington. Ray was a lifelong resident of Johnson County, Tennessee and was a World War II Veteran having served in the United States Army. He was a former employee of Farmers State Bank, where he worked for 31 years and was also a former employee of Mountain City Elementary School, where he worked for 15 years. Ray is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eveyln Pennington; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Melvin Bowers of Mountain City, Tennessee; two sons and daughters-in-law: O.H. and Patricia Pennington of Mountain City, Tennessee and Tom and Diana Pennington of Lewisburg, West Virginia; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Herbert and Mary Pennington of Columbus, Georgia and Ernest and Phyllis Pennington of Mountain City, Tennessee; grandchildren: Chrissy Bowers, Kim Peters, Kenny Pennington; great grandchildren: Danielle Peters, Mitchell Peters, Tasja Thomas, Chelsea Pennington and Olivia Pennington; one great-great grandson, Bentley Ray Peters; several nieces and nephew and a host of friends. Funeral Services for Ray will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 from the Mountain City Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Dowell to officiate. The family will receive friends 6-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service. Military Honors and Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010 from the Sunset Memorial Park and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be family and friends of Ray. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Friday by 10:45 a.m. to leave in procession to the cemetery.
