Betsy Alice Howard

Betsy Alice Howard, age 96, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed awy on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the Watauga Medical Center. A native of Johnson County, Tennessee, she was born on November 23, 1913 to the late Baxter Roe and Martha L. Jenkins Gentry. In addition to her parents, Betsy was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Howard and brothers: Emory Gentry, Logan Gentry, Joe Fate Gentry and Woodrow Gentry. Betsy loved to crochet, work word puzzles, gardening and flowers. Betsy was a resident of Mountain City Care Center for the last couple of years, but was still able to crochet and make her beautiful afghans. She was a member of Liberty Christian Church. Betsy is survived by several nieces and nephews and friends: Charles and Lura Johnson, Bea Williams, Michelle Atwood, Children of Keith and the late Kathleen Burgess (Betsy's roomate at Mountain City Care Center), Karen, Linda, Ingrid, Monette, Brent and Dennis. Visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Jim Hutchinson and Mr. Maurice Widener to officiate. Graveside Service and Interment will follow from the Phillippi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Bill Gentry, Joe Widener, Carl Williams, Roger Fenner, Rick Fenner and Men of Liberty Christian Church. Memorials may be made to the Phillippi Cemetery, 410 Houser Road, Mountain City, TN 37683.
