Thomas 'Tom' Kenneth Proffitt

Thomas Tom' Kenneth Proffitt Thomas Tom' Kenneth Proffitt, age 80, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at his residence. He was born on August 14, 1929 in Watauga County, North Carolina to the late James and Wilma Lawrence Proffitt. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Lavonda Tester Proffitt; brothers: Fred Proffitt, Howard Proffitt and Lee Proffitt; sister, Lucille Proffitt; father and mother-in-law, Auton and Pearl Tester and a special sister-in-law, Blanch Coffey. Tom was employed for 54 years with Blackburn's Supermarket and Food Country as Produce Manager. He was a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 F&AM. Tom is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Sonya Proffitt of Mountain City, Tennessee; sister, Mary Wilson and husband Rev. Carl Wilson of Beaver Dam, North Carolina; brother, Jack Proffitt of the Little Milligan Community, Tennessee; grandchildren: Chris Proffitt and Jennifer Proffitt; several nieces and nephews and many, many special friends. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 from the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Carl Wilson and Rev. Frank Johnson to officiate. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Shannon Courtner. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 from the Reece Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Carl Wilson officiating. Active Pallbearers will be: Paul Wilson, Jimmy Proffitt, Jerry Proffitt, Dale Wilson, Marty Proffitt and Chris Proffitt. Honorary Pallbearers are: Nelson Gray, Ted Trivett, Matt Myers, Tommy Poore, Jay Mink, Jimmy Lowe, Eric Lowe, Lee Greever and Ralph Vanover. Family, Pallbearers and friends are asked to assemble by 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
