James 'Jim' Proffitt

James Jim' Proffitt James Jim' Proffitt, age 68, of Yadkinville, North Carolina, and formerly of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on February 18, 1942 to the late Fred and Arna Mae Eller Proffitt. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Lucy Snyder. Jim was a United States Army Veteran having served during Vietnam in the 173rd Airborne, where he was a Para Trooper with the Screaming Eagles. He was a maintenance supervisor for J.H. Craver and Son. Jim loved to work on and fix almost anything and he also enjoyed to remodel and restore wood and metal furniture. He was a member of Turners Creek Baptist Church. Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Snyder Proffitt; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Elizabeth Proffitt; granddaughter, Nicole Proffitt, all of Hamptonville, NC brother, Jerry Proffitt and wife LaDonnia of Elizabethton, TN; father-in-law, Wade Snyder of Butler, TN; sisters-in-law: Charlotte Dugger and husband David of Butler, TN and Lucille Stewart and husband Larry of Florida; brother-in-law, Larry Snyder and wife Elaine of Florida and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Bobby Russell, Rev. Scott Welch and Rev. Carl Wilson to officiate. Military Honors, graveside service and interment will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010 from the Snyder Cemetery, Big Dry Run Road, Butler, TN and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be Brad Proffitt, Jeremy Proffitt, Harry Wills, Dale Wilson, Paul Wilson and Keith Miller. Honorary Pallbearers are: Marvin Moore, Hugh Holcomb, Gary Wagner, Bill Hester, Danny Callaway and Brian Hatfield. Memorials may be made to Turners Creek Baptist Church Missionary Fund, 3216 Courtney-Huntsville Road, Yadkinville, North Carolina 27055. At other times, the family will receive friends at their Butler Home, 5504 Big Dry Run Road, Butler, TN 37640.
