Roby Jack Sluder

Roby Jack Sluder, age 76, of Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina. He was born on December 4, 1933 in Shady Valley, Tennessee to the late J.C. Sluder and Brookie Wood Sluder. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a son, Leslie Sluder; granddaughter, Selina Sluder; brothers: Glenn Sluder and Walter Sluder; sisters: Myrtle Hutchinson and Dora Lee Lunceford and step mother, May Sluder. Jack enjoyed playing cards and games with his family. He spent his retirement building decks and woodworking. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and a life member of the VFW Post 9830 of Damascus, Virginia. Jack was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. Jack is survived by his children: Dianne Donahue and husband Bill of New Freedom, PA, Ricky Sluder of Shady Valley, TN, Cindy Bublinec of Dover, PA, Dave Sluder of Shady Valley, TN and Theresa Taylor of Jonesborough, TN; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brothers: Gene Sluder and wife Veronica of Mountain City, TN and Bill Sluder and wife Mary Alice of Bristol, TN; sisters: Mildred Upchurch and husband Ken of Damascus, VA, Deb French and husband Ken of Sumter, SC, Dottie Fullen and husband Denny of New Freedom, PA, Dee Behrens and husband Ed of New Freedom, PA and Darla Evans of Providence, KY; aunt, Elva Ledbetter of New Freedom, PA, former spouse, June Sluder of Shady Valley, TN; special friend, Jean Stout of Mountain City, TN and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Shady Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Thomason to officiate. The family will receive friends from 12-1:00 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday. Military Honors and Inurnment will follow from the Shady Valley Memorial Gardens and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 2430 S. Shady Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.
