Robert Earl Reece Robert Earl Reece, age 88, born on May 7, 1922 to the late James C. and Lura Mains Reece, entered into rest on Tuesday morning, January 4, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Mountain Home facility. He was a lifelong resident of Mountain City, Tennessee, except for his period of military service in the US Army during World War II. He served honorably as a Corporal in the Antitank Infantry in the European-North African Theatre of Operations, earning a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Robert retired from the Johnson County Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator. One of his delights in his last years was taking long drives with his sons to view new road construction in the county and to review past road projects he had worked on. He also enjoyed farming. Robert was a member of Ackerson Creek Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Melinda Sue Reece; three brothers: Kermit Reece, Carl Reece and Walter Reece and one sister, Mrs. Della Crowe. Robert is survived by two sons and their wives: Larry W. Reece and wife Nancy of Johnson City, Tennessee and Gary L. Reece and wife Mary of Mountain City, Tennessee and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Crystal G. Reece of Butler, Tennessee. He is also survived by a brother, Billy Reece and wife Mary Nell; two sisters: Mrs. Arna Mae Hodges and Beulah Oliver and husband Ned, all of Mountain City, TN. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. The Reece family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to doctors and entire staff of the Veterans Administration Mountain Home Extended Care Facility for the diligent care they provided Robert and for their many kindnesses to the Reece Family. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday January 6, 2011 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Mr. Herman Trivette to officiate. Entombment and Military Rites will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 7, 2011 from the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers are: Roddy Reece, Bill Dowell, Lee Arnold, J.R. Arnold, Mike Reece and Rhonda Reece. Honorary Pallbearers are: Jim Reece, Rick Reece, John Reece, Shane Reece, Lane Reece, Jim Oliver, Brett Reece, Tommy Reece, Jim Reece, Jeff Reece, Jim Crowe, Ray Crowe and Gordon Hodges. Family, pallbearers and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Johnson County Honor Guard, c/o Terry Reece, 210 S. Church Street, Mountain City, TN 37683. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Gary Reece, 305 Atwood Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.
