Mr. Harold W. Hess, age 83, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, January 13, 2011. He was born on February 16, 1927 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to the late Garnett and Blanche McVey Hess. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hess was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lee Hess; a grandson, Richard Eugene Vanover and one nephew. Mr. Hess was a United States Army Veteran having served during World War II in Italy. He moved to Johnson County in 1963 and in 1964 Mr. Hess founded Heath Union Church, where he was a member and pastor. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lola Hess; three daughters and son-in-law: Marjorie and Homer Vanover; Joan and RB Vanover and Rita and Bill Trivette, all of Mountain City, TN; one sister, Alma Hess of Litiz, PA; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one niece and one nephew; his church family and friends. The family will receive friends from 1 - 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Donnie Cox to officiate. Military Honors and Interment will follow from the West Cemetery in Creston, North Carolina and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be: Wayne Vanover, Michael Vanover, Joseph Vanover, David Trivette, Larry Trivette, Derek Hess, Homer Vanover, RB Vanover and Bill Trivette. Honorary pallbearers are members of Heath Union Church.
