Jay Wilburn Chappell Jay Wilburn Chappell, age 65, of Lenoir, NC, went home to be with his Lord on January 24, 2011. He was born on February 17, 1945 in Johnson County, TN. He was the son of the late Sarah Francis Chappell. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Carroll Jay and an aunt, Effie Jane Chappell. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Austin Chappell of the home; a son, Carroll Wilburn Chappell and wife Teresa of Mountain City, TN and cousins: Billy Dugger and wife Ellen, Pete Winters and wife Lois and Robert Chappell and wife sis, all of Mountain City, TN. After graduating from Johnson County High School, he joined the US Army for service in the military. During his lifetime, Jay had driven for the Coca Cola Company owned Jays' Diner in Mountain City, TN. He was an ordained minister and served as pastor of Rainbow Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church in Mountain City, TN. Relocating to North Carolina, Mr. Chappell was employed with Singer Furniture and Bernhardt Furniture in Lenoir, NC. Jay also served as interim pastor at Calico Baptist Church in Lenoir, NC. A memorial service to honor his life will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeview Baptist Church in Lenoir, NC.
