Polly Jean Day, age 75, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born on May 14, 1936 to the late Sam H. and Rettie Stout Proffitt. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her two husbands: D.W. Stout and Conley Day; one sister, Donna Kay Potter and one brother, Sampford Proffitt. Jean's pride and joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to work in her flowers and watch their beauty as they grew and flourished. Jean was a very spiritual and faith filled lady. She truly loved her Lord and did her best to serve him. She was a member of Sink Valley Baptist Church. Jean is survived by four daughters: Sherry Grindstaff and friend Dan Stout, Carolyn Stout and friend Randall Chandler, Lana Barnes and husband Mike and Deborah Arnold, all of Mountain City, Tennessee; one son, Wesley Stout and wife Samantha of Butler, (Dry Run Community), Tennessee; brothers: Ralph Proffitt and wife Maude, Paul Proffitt, Jim Proffitt and wife Sue, Mack Proffitt and friend Teresa; sisters: Pansy Saylor and husband Mike, Paulette Nichols and husband Ronnie; several nieces and nephews; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren, special friends: Annis Main and Annette Watson and many more special friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Roy Wilson and Rev. Harvey White to officiate. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Robert Grindstaff, Michael Ward, Worley Adams, Bobby Wilson, Lenny Key, and Curtis Hargett. Honorary Pallbearers are: Dr. Susanne Shine and Staff, staff of Mountain City Care Center and Johnson City Medical Center and nurses at Mountain State Home Care.
