Wilmer Hayes Gentry, age 91, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at his residence. Hayes was born May 21, 1920 in Johnson County, Tennessee to the late Isaac T. and Nanny Forrester Gentry. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Hayes was a retired carpenter and was a member of Union # 626 until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed hunting and working on his family's projects. Hayes was forever building something. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Iretis Johnson, Sarah Rhea, Mary Sue Hash, Thelma Fenner and Marvorene Cress; brothers: Earl Gentry and Paris (Pat) Gentry; grandson, Randy Brown and sons-in-law: Robert (Bob) Ross and Scott Wallace. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jean Osborne Gentry; daughters and son-in-law: Katherine Whitehill of Minnesota, Janet Ross of Youngsville, NC and Linda and John Reaves Zionsville, IN; sons and daughters-in-law: Cecil and Arlene Gentry of Coatsville, PA, W. Harold and Rita Gentry of Conowingo, MD; grandchildren: Stephanie Harrison, Stacie Myers, Kellee Beach, Ashley Gentry, Tracie Jones, Mary Ellen Trainor, Cindy Smith, Susan Colmore and Karen Stevens; seventeen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Mountain City Funeral Home with a Memorial Service following at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Steven Spencer officiating. Inurnment will follow in Phillippi Cemetery. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 749 Cold Springs Road, Mountain City.
