Roy O. Pope

Roy O. Pope, age 85, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on May 22, 1926 in Creston, NC to the late Ennis and Delphia Mahala Pope. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Grayson Pope; two brothers, Omery Pope and Harlan Pope. Mr. Pope loved to fish and had never met a stranger. He was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mr. Pope is survived by four daughters; Lois McClellan and husband Eddie of Charlotte, NC, Evelyn Lipford, Linda Shepherd and husband Billy, all of Mountain City, TN and Sharon Hogerhuris and husband Carl of Hesperia, CA; four sisters, Marie Mahala of Creston, NC, Louise Simmons of Maryland, Beulah Allen of Winston Salem, NC and Geneva Hines of Maryland; one brother, Floyd Pope of Mountain City, TN; a special friend & companion, Gail Eastridge; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and special friends, Barbara and Silas Offield and Buddy Osborne. The family will receive friends from 1 - 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Lewis Norwood to officiate. Music will be provided by the great- granddaughters and Hope Labrum. Graveside service and interment will be held following the funeral service from the Mahala Cemetery in Creston, NC (on Mahala Rd). Active pallbearers will be: Jay Miller, Charles Lipford, Ethan Miller, Anthony Pope, Junior Pope and Jimmy Pope. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Osborne and David Burrell.
