Ida Simcox Brown

Ida Simcox Brown, age 98, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2011 at the Mountain City Care Center. She was born in Shouns, Tennessee on June 30, 1913, the daughter of the late Tilman Emerson and Cora Payne Simcox. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Brown; an infant son; three brothers: Roscoe, Dana, and Selmer Simcox and two sisters: Dessie Taylor and Lora Hammons. Ida was formerly employed by the Johnson County School System as a cook for Shouns Elementary School for a number of years and was an avid gardener. Survivors include her two sons: Buster Brown and wife Peggy, and Billy Brown and wife Wanda, all of Mountain City, Tennessee; three grandsons: Robbie Brown and wife Heather, Jeff Brown and wife Pam, all of Mountain City, Tennessee and Shannon Brown and wife Melissa of Jonesborough, Tennessee; five great-grandsons: Griffin, Carson, Isaac, Ethan and Evan Brown. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2011 from the Mountain City Funeral Home chapel with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 pm. with Minister Ken Caswell and Minister Dwayne Dickson officiating. Music will be provided by Ricky Campbell. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Doug Hammons, Frank Simcox, Mike Simcox, Carroll Taylor, James Wade, and Jim Beebe. Honorary pallbearers will be: Tommy Walsh and Joe Sherwood. The family would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Brown's caregivers: Norma Wade, Sue Welch, Margaret Adams, and Jeanie Hammet.
