Lester B. Hicks, age 81, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Mountain City Care Center following an extended illness. He was born on March 22, 1930 in Johnson County to the late Bill Hicks and Sarah Eva Davis Hicks.. In addition to his parents, Lester was preceded in death by four sisters: Hazel Adams, Rose Stamper, Bessie Swaney and Winnie Harper; five brothers: Wayne Hicks, Fred Hicks, Frank Hicks, Herb Hicks and J.T. Hicks. Lester was a farmer and loved to garden. He had also worked driving log and bean trucks through the years. Lester was known by many for sitting on his front porch and giving a friendly wave as you passed by. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jearldine Lowe Hicks; two daughters: Pat Cullop and husband Bud of Laurel Bloomery, TN and Priscilla Hicks of Laurel Bloomery, TN; two sons: Bill Hicks and wife Glenda of Morristown, TN and Charlie Hicks and wife Della of Dandridge, TN, one sister, Alice Stout and husband Carroll of Mountain City, TN; one granddaughter, Melissa Vanover and husband Wayne; two grandsons: Israel Stanton and Cole Hicks; step grandson, Devon Meyers; five great grandchildren: Justin and Stephen Vanover, Peyton, Blayke and Levi Stanton and several nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held from 4-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Mountain City Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Phyllis Hankins to officiate.
