Gene Greer

Gene Greer, age 74, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, February 08, 2012 at the Mountain City Care Center. He was a native of Ashe County, North Carolina, born on September 22, 1937, the son of the late Art and Holly Snyder Greer. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Greer; two sisters: Arzella Johnson and Ancil Mahala; three brothers: Ray Greer, J.D. Greer and Dean Greer, who was Gene's twin brother. Gene loved to play cards, especially Rook. He was a member of Liberty Christian Church. Gene is survived by sisters: Reba Salmons and Louella Dowell, both of Mountain City, TN; brother, Ron Greer of Marion , NC; sister-in-law: Pauline Owens of Mountain City, TN; brother-in-law: Worley Payne; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his many friends. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Steven Spencer to officiate. Graveside Service and Interment will follow at the Cress Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gene's nephews. Honorary pallbearers are: Jim Hutchinson and the Staff, Nurses and Caregivers of Mountain City Care Center.
