Martin Dean Walker, age 77, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 27,2012 at the Mountain City Care Center. A native of Johnson County, Dean was born on October 9, 1934 to the late C.H. Herb'and Lynie Walker. In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Walker Monseur and brothers: Jack Walker, Charles F. Walker and Frederick D. Walker. Dean enjoyed Nascar, roller skating, carpentry, history and spending time with his grandchildren. Dean worked with the Johnson County Highway Department for several years until his health declined. He was a member of First Baptist Church and recently had come to know Pastor Steven Spencer and the Calvary Baptist Church fellowship. Dean had served with the Johnson County Rescue Squad and was a United States Air Force Veteran. He will truly be missed by his family and all who knew him. Dean is survived by his wife Clara FayeWalker; daughter, Ladeana Glenn of Gastonia, NC; Step-mother, Mattie G. Walker of Mountain City, TN; sisters: Blanche Settlemyre, Mary Hicks, both of Newton, NC, Shirley Michael and husband Bill, and Betty Mink, all of Mountain City, TN; brothers: Robert S. Walker and wife Gladys of Mountain City, TN, Connie Eggers, and John Eggers and wife Glenda, all of Bethel; grandchildren: Lauren Beuttel, Sydney Glenn, and Evan Glenn; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Sue Campbell of Mountain City, TN, several nieces and nephews and his co-workers at the Johnson County Highway Department. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Steven Spencer to officiate. Special music will be provided by Mr. Steve Williams Graveside service and interment with Military Honors will follow from the Walker Family Cemetery on Reece Hill Road and will be conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers are: James Eastridge, Dr. Jim Shine, Daniel Jones, and nephews. Memorials maybe made to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, # 102, Johnson City, TN 37601 or the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of his sister in law 391 Pleasant Valley Rd., Mountain City, TN 37683.
