Carolyn Elizabeth Hilburn

Carolyn Elizabeth Poe Hilburn, age 65, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2012. She was the loving wife of Brookie J. Hilburn, to whom she was married 46 years. Carolyn was born on April 9, 1947 and raised in Mountain City, TN. She was a daughter of the late Enoch and Nina Lee (Dunn) Poe. Carolyn worked as a registered nurse for 38 years, most recently at High Point Regional Hospital. Carolyn loved to visit the coast where she would fish off the pier and play bingo. She loved to cook, especially for other people. Carolyn loved taking care of other people, especially her family who she loved more than anything and who were extremely important to her. They, in turn, loved her and took care of her during her courageous battle with cancer. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, NC with Rev. Frank Woods, Lucrecia Quick, Jodi Dixon, and Paul Ortiz officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, May 7th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park Cemetery. In addition to her husband, Carolyn is survived by two sons, Brookie Joe "Joey" Hilburn and wife Michelle of Thomasville and Richard A. "Ricky" Hilburn and wife, Wendy of Archdale; two sisters, Janice Fritts and Linda Keller and husband, Dairl, all of Mountain City, TN; one brother, Bill Poe of Thompson, OH; six grandchildren, Eryn, Brookie, Jordan, Sarah, Madison and Alyson; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Poe and a brother, Bob Poe.
