Robert Daniel Kirksey, age 82, of Mountain City, Tennessee and formerly of Alabama, passed away in his home on Monday, August 20, 2012 following a lengthy illness. He was born on July 19, 1930 to the late Clarence and Maude Sullivan Kirksey. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Snow Kirksey; three sisters and six brothers. Robert was an active and avid supporter of children's activities in his community. He implemented the construction of the Johnson County High School's girls' softball field and press box, which was named Kirksey Field', in his honor. He was a major influence of the construction of the skate board park, the walking trail, and the men's softball field, located at Ralph Stout Park of Mountain City. Robert's contributions and labor are evidenced in various improvements around town and the community center. He has been recognized as citizen of the month on several occasions and his efforts and contributions have left a lasting legacy to the town of Mountain City. Robert's love of this community is demonstrated in his tireless efforts to make it a wholesome and beautiful area for our children. Robert was a member of First Baptist Church of Mountain City, Tennessee. He was a longstanding ordained Deacon. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Peggy Park Kirksey; their children: daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and John White of Trussville, AL; sons and daughters-in-law: Lance and Theresa Kirksey of Trussville, AL, Robert and Karen Kirksey Jr. of Richmond, VA; Bill Park of Birmingham, AL and Chris Park of Mountain City, TN; granddaughter, Colleen Kirksey; grandchildren: Jasmine Park, David Park, Jeremiah Park, Josh Park, and, Lucas Park; great grandchildren: Brinson Park and Madison Park; special friends: J.R. Arnold, Scotty and Linda Johnson, Carroll and Eloise Jenkins and Jim and Deborah Bishop; several nieces and nephew and a host of friends. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, AL with Rev. Bob Shipp officiating. The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Johnson County High School Girls Softball Team, 500 Fairground Lane, Mountain City, TN. 37683.
