Edward "Ed" Smith of 210 Blaine Road, Sneedville, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2012 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. Edward was born on January 5, 1949 in Mountain City, TN, to Tyler W. Smith and Danford Nelson Smith. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tyler W. Smith, Jr. Edward was a 1967 graduate of Johnson County High School. He received his B.S. in Agriculture from Berea College in Kentucky and a Masters of Administration and Curriculum from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. His professional career included service as a jet engine mechanic in the United States Air Force, an appointment as an Assistant Extension Agent in Hancock County, TN and later appointments in Claiborne County, TN and St. Augustine FL as District Soil Conservationist. He retired from his position as a science teacher in Hancock County School System. He was a member of Duck Creek Baptist Church in Sneedville, TN. Survivors in addition to his mother, Danford Nelson Smith, include his wife, Sandy Smith; his children, Ashley Smith Hopkins and her husband Jerry, Michael Smith, and Leah Smith all of Sneedville, TN, and Jacqueline Smith, of Lexington, Kentucky, as well as his beloved granddaughter, Sarah Rose Willis, and his sister, Catherine Hagmann. The family will be present to receive friends in memory and in celebration of Mr. Smith's life from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2012 at Mountain City Funeral Home.
