Ronnie Perkins, age 57, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Mountain City Care Center. He was born on May 5, 1955 to the late Burl Shelton Perkins and Virginia Stella Younce Perkins. In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by his step-son, BJ Snyder. Ronnie was a 1973 Graduate of Johnson County High School. He attended Berea College and ETSU. Ronnie had a deep passion for helping our community thrive and was very involved with several organizations. He was a member of the United Way for 10 years and served as President for 5 years. He also served for four years on the Johnson County Commission, eight years with the Johnson County Planning Commission, where he served four of those eight years as Chairman, and several other boards and committees. He was a member of God's Country Church. Ronnie is survived by Kathy Perkins; daughter, Sara Perkins of CA; son, Ryan Perkins of CA; stepdaughters: Heather Johnson of Elizabethton, TN, Christy Reece of Butler, TN and Jessica Finney of Alaska; sister, Barbara Bunton of SC; brother, Harold Mains of Elizabethton, TN; step grandchildren: Bruce Reece, Ally Reece, Kassandra Hall and Kiley Hall; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; special friends: Steve Arnold and Todd Grayson and many more special friends. The family will receive friends from 1-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Steven Spencer officiating and eulogy by Duke Snyder. Music will be provided by Brenda and Larry Barry. Graveside Service and Interment will follow from the Sunset Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be Steve Arnold, Todd Grayson, J.W. Jeff' Tester, Kevin Icenhour, Steve Stanley and Duke Snyder. Honorary Pallbearers are Steve Courtner, Roger Gentry, Mike Reece, Tommy Eller and members of the Johnson County Rescue Squad & EMS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be sent in Ronnie's memory to the United Way of Johnson County, PO Box 113, Mountain City, TN 37683 or the Johnson County Rescue Squad & EMS, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.
