Billy Hoover Matheson, age 84 of Mountain City, TN passed away on January 19, 2013 at the VA Hospital, Wilmington DE. He was born in Butler, TN to the late George Matheson and Mona Faye (Reece) Matheson. Bill was the husband of Joan Church Matheson who died in 1999, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by his siblings: Dewey Matheson, Brown Matheson, Andy Dud' Matheson, Oscar Doc' Matheson, Letha Archer, Maude Grindstaff, Florence Delong and an infant sister. Bill served our country during WWII in the U.S. Army. He worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and helped construct the Watauga Lake Dam. He was a long time Rose grower for both Thompson Roses and Yeatmans Roses retiring in 1994. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include one son, Robert Matheson of VA, two daughters: Mona Matheson Ford and husband Daniel Ford of West Grove, PA and Dianda Donohoe of Smyrna DE; one brother, Daniel Matheson and wife Pat of Jonesborough TN; four grandchildren: Crystal Lattanzio and husband Stephen Lattanzio, Jim Donohoe, Elizabeth Donohoe, and Kerri Ford Matheson; three great grandchildren: Stevie, Mason, and Audrey Lattanzio; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. The family will receive friends from 4-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home and on Monday, January 28, 2013 from 10-11:00 a.m. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 from the Mountain City Funeral Home.Burial will follow in the Mast Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made in Bill's memory to the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
