Wayne Hobert Peters, age 92, of 1219 Broad Street, Elizabethton, TN, was promoted to Glory Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Bruce and Iva Lee Reed Peters. He had lived most of his life in Carter County. He had served in the United States Navy during World War II, stationed in the Pacific. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation, having worked there for over 30 years. Wayne was of the Free Will Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rutha Mae Slemp Peters, march 6, 1986, an infant daughter, Waynetta Ivajo Peters; four sisters: Bonnie Reynolds, Ada Chambers, Rosa Peters and Dessie McCarty and two brothers: Carl and Bob Peters. Wayne loved to farm and do carpentry work. Survivors include two daughters: Judy Heaton and husband Ronnie of Elizabethton, TN and Vicky Peters of Clam Gulch, Alaska; son, Gary Peters of Elizabethton, TN; eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Mark Potter to officiate. Music will be provided by Loren Harris. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 am Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in the Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Nathan Jennings to officiate. Active pallbearers will be: Darrell Byrd, Jason Peters, Jamie Heaton, Keith Kennedy, Billy Winters, Dustin Winters and Devin Peters. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Family, Pallbearers and friends are asked to assemble at 10:20 am Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to express a special Thank You' to Dr. Jonathan Bremer, The Team Members of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and Caris Hospice.
