Larry Farrell, age 69, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on March 12, 2013. He was born on May 16, 1943 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania to the late Charles W. and Helen Guzinski Farrell. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Barri and a brother, Terry Farrell. He was an Electronic Engineer for Honeywell in Florida, working in the Military Avionics department. Prior to moving to Mountain City, Tennessee, Larry lived in Florida from 1972 until 2005. Larry was a United States Army Airborne Ranger, having served during Vietnam, earning rank of Specialist E-6. During his military career, Larry earned numerous medals and commendations: two Distinguished Service Crosses, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, Vietnam Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam National Campaign Medal, Army commendation, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam National Cross for Gallantry, four Air Medals, Presidential Unit Citation, Natinoal Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Emblem, two Combat Infantry Badges and Expert Badge for for M-14 and M-60. Larry enjoyed being around people and had many hobbies. He was a member of the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation. Larry enjoyed going to Johnson County High School Football Games and watching Notre Dame and Colts. He was a Civil War Buff and also studied archaeology. Larry was a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and assisted with the St. Anthony Bread Pantry. Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Farrell; daughter Darleen Farrell; son, Shawn Farrell; brother, Ron Farrell and grandson, Brian Farrell. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church of Mountain City, Tennessee. Memorial Services will be held at a later date in New Jersey and Florida. Inurnment will be at the Florida National Cemetery of Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Larry's memory may be made to the St. Anthony's Bread, 833 West Main Street, Mountain City, TN 37683 or your local Salvation Army.
