Burl R. South, age 82, of Trade, Tennessee, passed away on April 6, 2013. He was born on June 12, 1930 to the late Hobert and Lillie Brown South. In addition to his parents, Burl was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dollie Miller South, who passed away on March 9, 2010; an infant son, Gerald Blaine South; four sisters: Penny Fisher, Mae Greene and infant twin sisters and six brothers: Charlie South, Bruce South, Gene South, Kermit South, Tommy South and Clayton South. Burl was an honest, hard-working man, working until his health would no longer allow him to. In his younger days, Burl worked in Pennsylvania in the mushroom houses. He worked at Burlington Industries for many years, until there closure. After Burlington closed, Burl went to work at Levi Strauss for many years. Burl could have retired at this time, but wanted to keep working. He went to work at Tweetsie Railroad of Blowing Rock, NC, where he worked for 12 years and was the oldest employee of Tweetsie during his employment. Following the death of his wife, Dollie, Burl moved north to be close to his family, daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren. He was a member of God's Country Church. Burl is survived by his loving daughters and son-in-law: Carla Connell of Delaware and Donna and Don Poole of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Marie Reece and Betty Iverson; two brothers: Bill South and Jack South; grandchildren: Jonathan Connell, Aaron Connell, Donald Poole III , Danny Poole, Dottie Ashby; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Manuel to officiate. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service, at the funeral home. Graveside Service and Interment will follow at the Reece Cemetery, Trade, Tennessee. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Connell, Aaron Connell, Danny Poole, Don Poole, Lane Miller and David Ashby. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Lane Miller Jr., Johnny Miller, Tony Bolick.
