Billy Ray Payne, age 58, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away from a broken heart on Thursday, April 18, 2013. He was born on February 6, 1955 to Wanda Mae Curd Payne of Mountain City, TN and the late Henry Clay Payne. In addition to his father, Billy was preceded in death by his son and his son's fiancé, Billy Clay Payne and Billie Jean Hayworth, who both tragically passed away on January 31, 2012; and an infant sibling. Billy was a 1973 graduate of JCHS. He retired from TRW of Boone, NC following 40 years of service. Billy loved his children, grandchildren and family deeply and enjoyed spending his time with them. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his mother, Wanda Curd Payne, Billy is survived by his loving daughter, Tracy Greenwell and husband Jason of Mountain City, TN; special nephew and friend, Steve Dugger of Mountain City, TN; friend and mother of Billy's children, Beverly Garland of Knoxville, TN; sisters and brother-in-law: Linda and Charles Dyson and Cathy Payne, all of Mountain City, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Connie Payne, of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren: Justin Payne of Clermont, FL, Tyler Payne and Clay Greenwell, both of Mountain City, TN; niece, Karen Potter, nephew, David Payne; great niece, Haley Potter; great nephews: Austin Payne and Jacob Potter; Billy's companion and pal, Pepper; several aunts, uncles and cousins and many, many special friends. Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Ministers Billy Morefield and Bill McGuire to officiate. The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside Service and Interment will follow at the Dunn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Clay Greenwell, Jason Greenwell, Steven Dugger, Larry Payne, Justin Payne, Austin Payne, Josh Garland, Ronnie Hughes and Charlie Townsend. Honorary Pallbearers are Charlie Stevens, Robert Back, Dan O.and Millie Dugger. The family wishes to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the Medical Staff of Bristol Regional Medical Center, Johnson County Rescue Squad, Caris Hospice, Sharon Hughes and Cathy Cullop.
