Izetta Garland

Izetta D. Garland Izetta D. Garland, age 96, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the home of her son, with her family by her side. She was born on September 17, 1916 to the late Clyde B. and Ada Sarah Blevins Hutchinson. In addition to her parents, Izetta was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert G. Dodgion Sr.; her second husband, Denver Blevins and her third husband, Fred Garland; sister, Alta Hutchinson; five brothers, Grover, Verlin, Durphy, Glen and Clarence Hutchinson. Izetta graduated from Watauga High School and ETSU. She was one of the first teachers hired in 1937 to teach at the Sutherland, Crandull and Shady Schools. Izetta taught school for 37 years.. Izetta was a member of the Harmon's Chapel Christian Church. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sue Dodgion of Shady Valley, TN; brother, C.B. Hutchinson of San Leandro, CA; grandchildren: Robert S. Dodgion and wife Lora and Karrie Kilby and husband Bobby Wallace; great grandchildren: Timothy Sanders, Kenneth Parks, Robert Dodgion, III and Rhiannon Dodgion; special niece, Jan King and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Harmon's Chapel Christian Church. Graveside Service and Interment will follow the visitation from the Blevins Cemetery with Minister Howard Taylor to officiate. Special Song will be provided by Roger Blevins. Pallbearers will be Bobby Wallace, Huey Long, Tony Long, Lonnie Long, Wayne Shepherd, Leon Steagall and Billy Gambill. Honorary Pallbearers are the Members of the Shady Valley Volunteer Fire Department and Johnson County Rescue Squad. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Izetta's memory may be made to the Shady Valley Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Kenneth McQueen, 134 McQueen Road, Shady Valley, TN 37688.
