Sylvia 'Deen' Swift

Sylvia Deen Brooks Swift, age 83, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Mountain City Care Center. She was born on August 22, 1929 to the late Walter Clay Brooks and Etta Sarrah Fenner Brooks. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Earl Ray Swift, who passed away on May 15, 2009; sisters: Opal Jenkins and Mabel Shupe; brother, Chester Brooks and grandson, Lieutenant Commander Dale Taylor. Sylvia loved her family deeply and was very proud of all them. She enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of them, whether she was cooking for them, tending to them when they were sick, or spoiling her grandchildren. Sylvia was a member of Liberty Christian Church. Sylvia is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Carolyn and Truman Stanton and Janice and David Wills, all of Claremont, NC; son and daughter-in-law, James Jim' and Linda Swift of Mountain City, TN; six grandchildren: Chris, Josh, Teresa, Sarah, Megan and Becky; eight great grandchildren: Chase, Erick, Erica, Evan, Emmett, Mercedes, Hunter, and Taylor; and sister, Chelsea Lee Pleasant of Mountain City, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the Funeral Service to follow at 12:30 p.m. with Bud Gentry, Minister officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will follow from the Wilson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Wright, Hunter Wright, Michael Gentry, Eddie Henson, Chris Stanton and Josh Stanton. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to the Wilson Cemetery, c/o Traci Adams, 498 Henry Stout Branch Road, Mountain City, TN 37683. The family of Sylvia would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to all of the Caregivers of Mountain City Care Center for their loving kindness and compassion.
