Odell Dayton Stanley, age 81, of Mountain City went to be with the Lord on Monday August 12, 2013, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness. He was born on August 22, 1931 in Johnson County to the late Sollie and Mae Winters Stanley. In addition to his parents, Odell was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Fletcher Stanley; sister, Virginia Tester; and a brother, Charlie Stanley. Odell worked for the shoe plant for 20 years, was a dairy farmer for nine years. He also worked for Film Salvage and Lenoir Furniture Factory. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church Odell is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Glenda and Ronald Miller of Trade, TN, Angela and Jeff Roten of Mountain City, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Retired Army Veteran, Richard and Sheila Stanley of Columbia, SC; grandsons: SFC Richard O. Stanley Jr, who is currently serving in Africa with US Army; Michael Stanley of Columbia, SC; granddaughter, Ashley Miller and husband DE of Maiden, NC; two great grandchildren: Tyler and Carrington Stanley; sister, Judy Hicks of Piney Flats, TN; brothers and sisters-in-law: Carl Stanley and wife Eva, Delmer Stanley and wife Evelyn and Bert Stanley, all of Mountain City, TN; special friends: Joel and Margaret Icenhour and special caregiver and friend, Vicky Fletcher Price and Hank; Men's Sunday School Class of Calvary Baptist Church. Several nieces and nephews and many dear friends also survive. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the Funeral Service to follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor Steven Spencer officiating. Music will be provided by Tony and Cheri Potter. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Reece Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to assemble by 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home to leave in procession to the cemetery.
