II Timothy 4:7 Vance Gentry, age 63, of Shady Valley, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center with his family at his side. He was born November 16, 1949, to Veralene Manuel Gentry and the late S.T. Gentry. Vance was raised in the small community of Shady Valley on the family farm. He learned to mow hay and bush hog by the age of 12. There began his love of farming. Vance attended Johnson County High School where he was an all star quarterback and then married Judy Cornett his homecoming queen. Vance, as a young dairy farmer, went on to win numerous awards with his successful dairy, taught his children to fear God, love the land and work hard. He was a man who stood by his word and above all, a devout Christian and a member and treasurer of Crandall Church of Christ. Vance was a board member of Farm Bureau since age 23, lifelong member of FFA, board member Tri-State Growers, served on the Soil Conservation board and the Southern States board. In addition to his mother, Veralene Gentry, Vance is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Judy Cornett Gentry; daughters and sons-in-law: Melissa Gentry Eller and husband Richard of Shady Valley, TN and Karla Gentry Andrews and husband Walt of Hampton, TN; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra Matheson and husband Gary; His precious grandchildren: Chloe Elizabeth Eller, Zachary Kyle Eller, and William Gentry Andrews; His mother-in-law and father-in-law, Karl and Edith Cornett, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Aaron Cornett and wife Ann, sister-in-law, Joyce Matheson, all of Mountain City, TN; two nieces and a nephew also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 pm on Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Tracy Dugger and Phil Blevins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 prior to the funeral service. The committal service and burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 24, 2013 at the Gentry Cemetery. Everyone planning to go in procession to the cemetery is asked to meet at Shady Valley Presbyterian Church at 10:30 am. Pallbearers will be Gary Roark, Wayne Duncan, Nathan Hodge, Elwood Cretsinger, Walter Gentry, Charlie Gentry, Aaron Cornett, and Matthew Cornett. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Matheson, Ed Hodge, Jack Hutchins, Tom Swiney, Board and Employees at Tri-State, Board and Employees at Farm Bureau, Men of Crandull Church of Christ, Dr. Anil Tumkur, Employees of West Hill Tractor and Southern States. Friends may call at the home, 300 Winchester Road, Shady Valley.
