Worley L. Payne

Worley Lee Payne, age 85, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born on March 14, 1928 to the late Charles Lee Payne and Della Johnson Payne. In addition to his parents, Worley was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Mable Kilby Payne; sisters: Virgie Greer, Dorothy Cress and Pauline Owens and brothers: Luther Payne and Gurney Payne. Worley was a World War II Veteran, having honorably served in the United States Army. He was a member of Liberty Christian Church. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Connie Payne Matherly and husband Eric of Mountain City, TN; sons and daughters-in-law: Greg and Wanda Payne, Gary and Tenia Payne, all of Mountain City, TN and Jeff and Heather Payne of Elizabethton, TN; grandchildren: Celia Pennington and husband Marty of Creston, NC, Brandi Matherly of Johnson City, TN, Seth Payne and wife Toni of Mountain City, TN; Caroline Payne of Williamsport, PA and Aaron Payne and Vanessa of Mountain City, TN; great grandchildren: Vincent Matherly, Vanessa Matherly, Jennifer Matherly, Dalton Matherly, Lacy Jo Payne, Chloe Pennington, Brady Matherly and Sara Beth Pennington; several nieces and nephews and many, many close friends. Funeral Services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Harry Wills to officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service. Graveside Service and Interment with Military Honors conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2013 from the Cress Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Laws, Matthew Lewis, Jack Pennington, Larry Widener, Bob Roark and David Smith. Honorary Pallbearers are James Lefler, Boyd Lipford and Ross Dowell.
