W. Calvin Hawkins, age 85, of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the Mountain City Care Center. A lifelong resident of Johnson County, he was born on November 23, 1927 to the late Richard Bruce Hawkins Sr. and Minnie Felts Hawkins. In addition to his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Gentry; brothers: Richard Hawkins Jr., Wilton Hawkins, Willard Hawkins, Newton Hawkins and a half-brother, Walter Shumate and a nephew, Ron Gentry. Calvin owned and operated a sawmill with his brother for many years. He was also a lifelong farmer, an avid outdoorsman, and was well known and respected by his many friends throughout the community. Calvin was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Calvin is survived by his sisters: Annis Gentry of Laurel Bloomery, TN, Lillian Hawkins and Bonnie Icenhour, both of Mountain City, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Bonnie Hawkins of Laurel Bloomery, TN; several nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom Prater to officiate. Music will be provided by Mr. Kerry Gentry. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside Service and Interment will follow from the Acre Field Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenny Icenhour, Eric Wallace, Steve Hawkins, Ross Hawkins, Derrell Gentry and Eric Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers are: Stacy Greer, Mary Beth Taylor, LeAnn Taylor, Congregation of St. John's United Methodist Church, Peanut Morefield, Dr. Floyd Barker and Staff, Staff of Amedisys Home Health and Mountain City Care Center and Employees and Friends of A to Z Market.
