Nellie R. Sluder

Nellie Raye Sluder, age 93, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on September 1, 1920 to the late Tom and Pearl McElyea Icenhour. In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Rom Sluder, who passed away in 1994; daughter, Joan Evelyn Sluder; sons: Donald Ted Sluder and Ronald Gary Bird' Sluder; grandson, Tommy Ray Sluder and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Sluder. She was a former employee of Leco and Levi Strauss and Company for many years and later retired from Levi's. Nellie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church but had attended Locust Gap Baptist Church for the past several years. She is survived by her daughters: Kathy Courtner and Karen Johnson; sons: Jerry Sluder and Kenneth Sluder; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Shannon Courtner and Pastor Steven Spencer to officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the Phillippi Cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are: Dr. John Whitlock and Dr. Daniel Jones and Staff; Ginger Peters, Alan Storie, Sanford Courtner and Orville Johnson. Condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.mountaincityfh.com. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 197 B. Johnson Road, Mountain City, TN 37683.
