Clarence M. Burkey

Clarence M. Sonny' Burkey, age 79, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2013. He was born on April 19, 1934 in Downingtown, Pennsylvania to the late Wilbur Burkey and Marietta Pierce Burkey. In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hawks Burkey; daughter Terry Tate; son Clarence M. Burkey, Jr; and several brothers and sisters. Sonny was an auto mechanic and did auto body work for many years. He enjoyed working on anything that had a motor. Sonny also enjoyed the outdoors and in his younger days, he loved to go hunting and fishing. Sonny was an avid Nascar and Philly Eagles fan. He always enjoyed a good meal at KFC. Sonny was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and was a United States Army veteran. Sonny is survived by daughters: Ferinda Steely of Shady Valley, TN; Dorothy Harris of PA; Debbie Dowlin of PA and Barbara Dowlin of Copper Hill, TN; sons: Brad Burkey and Wilbur Burkey, both of Shady Valley, TN; sister, Alberta Christie of Narvon, PA; grandchildren: Gene Burkey, Buster Ray Harris, Becky Harris, Nicole Burkey, and Natashia; seven great grandchildren, special friend, Marge Rouse and his dogs, Spanky and Bright Eyes. It was Sonny's request to be cremated and no formal service to be held. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to the Shady Valley Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Conley Gentry, 340 Walker Road, Shady Valley, TN 37688.
