Danford Nelson Smith Danford Nelson Smith, age 96, of 720 McElyea Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. Danford was born on June 1, 1917 in Mountain City, TN, to John King Nelson, Sr. and Cora Ann Smith. In addition to her husband, Tyler W. Smith, she was preceded in death by her sons, Tyler W. Smith, Jr. and Edward "Ed" Smith. Mrs. Smith worked at various periods in her life as a homemaker, a seamstress, a cook, and an employee of Blackburn's Supermarket in Mountain City. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, cooking and reading. She was a member of Ackerson Creek Church of Christ located in Laurel Bloomery, TN. Survivors include her daughter, Catherine Hagmann; grandchildren: Jacqueline L. Smith, Ph.D. of Lexington, KY and Ashely Smith Hopkins, Leah Smith, and Michael Smith, as well as her beloved great granddaughter, Sarah Rose Willis, of Sneedville, TN in addition to many nieces and nephews. Special friends, who continually made "Dance's" life joyful, include her niece, Patty Smith and family friend, Jimmy South. Funeral services will be held at Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013 with Mr. Bill Reece officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearer will be James South. A private graveside interment service will follow at Phillippi Cemetery in Mountain City. Condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.mountaincityfh.com. Flowers will be appreciated, but for those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad. The services for Danford Nelson Smith have been entrusted to Mountain City Funeral Home, 224 S. Church Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
