Ruby Hill

Ruby Louise Hill, June 30, 1916-November 6, 2013, passed from this world at the age of 97 while a resident of Asbury Place Health Care Center in Maryville, Tennessee. Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, Freemon F. Hill, by her siblings, Jess Godsey, Clarence B. Godsey, Elizabeth Pickett and Lillian Hatchett and by a grandchild, Melissa Eaker and a great-grandchild, Rebecca Chambers. Mrs. Hill is survived by her two sons, Gene Pharr and Gary Hill; her grandchildren, Gene Kalmeyer, Paula Chambers, Luke Hill and Justin Hill; by her great-grandchildren Emmie Hill, Zachary Eaker, Alec Eaker, Jason Chambers, Adam Chambers, Tucker Kalmeyer, Josh Kalmeyer, Josh Kalmeyer and Danny Kalmeyer; and by great-great-grandchild Samuel Chambers. During her long life, Mrs. Hill called several places home: California, Florida, Georgia and in Tennessee: Oak Ridge, Chattanooga, Ooltewah, Mountain City, Knoxville and Maryville. During World War II she earned a commendation for her work as a welder. Her primary role, however, was homemaker and the raising of her two boys. Mrs. Hill never met a stranger. Her personality was contagious and welcomed by all who knew her. There were times when her tongue worked when nothing else did. Her sense of humor never failed. She said she wanted one thing on her tombstone: "See, I told you I was sick!" During her final years, Mrs. Hill attended Fairview United Methodist Church in Maryville, Tennessee. A graveside service will be conducted by Reverend Dr. Gary Hill at the Goodwin Cemetery in Doe Valley, Tennessee at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 07, 2013. It is requested by the Hill and Pharr families that should you wish to make a gift in memory of Mrs. Hill, please make that gift to your favorite charity. Mrs. Hill's family wishes to thank the staff of Asbury Place Health Care Center and ladies from Fairview UMC who visited her during her stay at Asbury, for the caring respect they gave.
