Mattie G. Walker

Mattie Marie Walker, age 93, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on December 15, 2013 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was born in Fleetwood, North Carolina on March 12, 1920 to the late John and Rebecca Greer. In addition to her parents, Mattie was preceded in death by her husband C.H. Herbert' Walker; son, Frederick Dale Walker; stepsons: J.C. Walker, Martin Dean Walker, and Charles Walker and a stepdaughter, Helen Walker Monseur; brothers: Albert Greer, Raymond Greer and Sanford Greer; sisters: Beulah Phillips, Nan Grindstaff, Edna Greer, Ollie Garretson and Viola Baker. When Mattie was able she loved doing things for her family and friends and enjoyed traveling. She was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by her daughters: Shirley Michael and husband Bill and Betty Mink and friend, SK Davis; son, John L. Eggers and wife Glenda; stepchildren: Blanche Settlemyre, Mary Hicks, Robert R.S.' Walker, Connie H. Eggers; twenty four grandchildren: 56 great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren; special great granddaughter, Geena Atwood; special care givers: Heather Isaacs and Pam Brandes; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Norman and Granddaughter, Amy Cherbony to officiate. Special music will be by Pastor Jim Norman. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the service. Graveside Service and Interment will follow from the Walker Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Chuck Walker, Joseph Atwood, Jesse Atwood, David Atwood, Danny Grindstaff, Johnny Dickens, David Collins and Jody Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers are the Members of Johnson County Rescue Squad. The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the Johnson County Rescue Squad and Staff and all those who have taken such wonderful care of Mattie for their kindness and compassion.
