Douglas Joe Baird, age 74, of Butler, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 23, 2013 at his residence. He was born on February 20, 1939 in Watauga, Tennessee to Jessie Boyd Baird and the late Abner Baird. In addition to his father, Joe was preceded in death by a brother, Abner Baird Jr. Joe had been a welder most of his life and retired from the coal mines, following 12 years of service. He was a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 F&AM. Doug loved spending time with his family but especially with his grandchildren. He was a member of Bakers Gap Baptist Church, where he had served as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon. In addition to his mother, Jessie Baird of Johnson City, TN, Joe is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley Jean' Guinn Baird; sons and daughters-in-law: Terry Douglas Baird and wife Joyce of Butler, TN and Timothy Joe Baird and wife Traci of Jacksonville, AL; sisters and brothers-in-law: Judy and Lee L. Roark of Mountain City, TN and Peggy and Howard Potter of Gray, TN; brother, Lonnie Baird of Quarryville, PA; grandchildren: Aaron Joseph Baird and wife Kim, Katie Baird, Abby Baird and Anna Baird; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mae Talley, Geneva Eggers, Melissa McCullah, Lynn GaGlliardi, David Gwinn and wife Judy, Joe Gwinn, Wayne Guinn, Jack Guinn and Mark Guinn; several cousins, nieces and nephews and many special friends and neighbors. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Mack Arnold Sr. and James Richardson to officiate. Masonic rites will follow. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday December 27, 2013 from the Bakers Gap Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Guinn, Keith Guinn, Carrol Chappell, Bobby Potter, Brian Roark and Mikey Yates. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Eggers, Lee L. Roark, Joe Gwinn, Howard Potter, David Dugger, Wade Snyder, Willie Tello. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 670 Tom Bunton Lane, Butler, Tn.
